The Royal NZ Plunket Society provides a Well Child and Family health service available free to all New Zealand families with children under the age of five. Plunket is a team effort - the Plunket nursing staff here at Karori are supported by volunteer members (the Plunket committee) from the local community. They work alongside parents and caregivers to offer health care and practical help for children and their families.

Plunket nurses are experienced registered nurses who have completed specialised training in child and family health. They will carry out health checks on your child and can provide you with help and information on your child's health and development.

Parents with new babies will be visited at home by a Plunket nurse, and later you can bring your children to the Plunket clinic. All parents will receive 6 core visits for their babies between the ages of 6 weeks and 3 years. Extra visits can be arranged as required, and may be clinic visits and/or group education sessions.

You may not be aware that the Plunket nurses are employed by the Plunket Society, who receives funding for salaries from the government. However, other expenses (such as the maintenance of the Plunket rooms) are met by the Plunket Committee via fundraising.
