T H E P L U N K E T
C O M M I T T E E
The
Karori Plunket committee consists of
parents like you. The majority of committee members are mothers with
one or more children who volunteer their time to support the nurses and
provide other services for you and your babies/children. We would welcome
more parents (including some Dads) to our committee. If you are a new parent,
or have recently moved to Karori, you may like to consider joining the
Plunket committee, or just offer your time to help with the Annual Plunket
Appeal, delivering Newsletters, or phoning parents to let them know about
Plunket activities or fundraisers.
We meet at the Plunket Rooms on the third Wednesday of the month,
starting at 7.30pm. The meetings
usually last for 2 hours, including a yummy supper provided by one of the
members. It’s a great way to meet others, learn new skills, and is also a way
of giving something back to your community. The great thing is you can give
as much or as little of your time as you like or feel able. We always welcome
new committee members to help share the tasks at hand. Even if you don't want
a position that comes with a fancy title, we'd still love you to join us -
there's always something you can help with.
The committee is involved in many activities including the following:
- Fundraising (usually
for the running and maintenance of the Plunket rooms and equipment)
- Arranging PIN
(Plunket in Neighbourhood) groups for new parents and parents new to
Karori
- Providing
educational courses (e.g. Toddler Development Course)
- Nursery furniture

- Providing a
newsletter and website
- Working with Karori Plunket
Creche
An orientation booklet for new volunteers is available from the committee.
